Gramatik throws down yet again! The sampling master hit the Fillmore Saturday with a more than standard set that had the crowd smiling and grooving all night. He is back in full force, ready for his fall tour 2012, debuting a new stage set up inspired by the tesla coil that will not disappoint, topping it off with his new track “Digital Liberation Is Mad Freedom”, altogether making a show that is not to be missed!
Mux Mool got the night started right. All the way from Brooklyn, Mux made sure to play hits from his albums “Skulltaste” and most recent “Planet High School”. It only got better form there as he branched out toward the end of his set and even played the all time classic B-52′s “Love Shack”.
Next up was Talib Kweli. Also from Brooklyn, Talib simply need a mic to make it all happen. Starting with his DJ scratching LL Cool J’s “Rock the Bells”, he made sure to get your hands up and kept them there. He demonstrated his beat-keeping mastery, rapping acapella multiple times throughout the night. He brought it all to a close with his hits “Get Em High” collaborated with Kanye West and finally his single “Get By”.

No one was ready for what was next! With the lights out, it took but a second before the music dropped, and the crowd erupted! There was an explosion of light on stage and the crowd remained in limbo between dance party madness and awe at the incredible lighting spectacle. LEDs covered the stage as images bounced around between three “coils” that towered above the booth. Gramatik, with guitarist Eric Mendelson, destroyed the place for hours. With live guitar plucks harmonizing on top of that already phat beat, it was easy to get lost in the set completely, leaving you wondering what just happened by the end! He finished with his new track, co-produced with the one we know and love GRiZ, a collaboration known as Grizmatik. With a track that good as their debut, we can only hope to see Grizmatik performing the rest of their album to a Colorowdy crowd as soon as possible.

Denis is a true genius, his music accessible to all who listen, and his new stage design is so fresh he should be selling out the rest of this tour. I will definitely not be missing the opportunity to see this set again, even if just to spend one more night with the people I love to get rowdy with the most!
